Common questions
- Can a shift cross midnight?
- Yes. A finish earlier than the start is treated as the following day. Tick “Finish next day” for a full 24-hour shift with the same start and finish time.
- Is the pay figure take-home pay?
- No. It is hours multiplied by the hourly rate, before tax, National Insurance and other deductions. There is no overtime premium unless you calculate those shifts separately at their own rate.
- Are these elapsed hours across daylight-saving changes?
- No. These are clock hours for ordinary shifts, with no dates or time zones. For a shift on a clock-change night, adjust the paid hours to match your employer’s policy.
