Privacy

Your calculator inputs and files stay on your device. Games and learning tools can save progress in this browser. The broadband test sends generated test data only when you start it. Hosting, advertising, analytics and exchange-rate requests are explained below.

Who is responsible for your data

Mini Widgets is published by Central Intelligence Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under number 16973632, with its registered office at 49 Waddington Road, London, E15 1QL, United Kingdom. Central Intelligence Ltd is the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law.

For anything covered on this page, write to hello@mini-widgets.com, or to the registered office above.

The figures you type

Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. Your salary, your pension contribution, the price of a house, the gain on a property: all of it is calculated on your own device by JavaScript that was downloaded with the page. None of it is transmitted to us, and none of it is stored anywhere.

There is no account to create, no form to submit, and no server that receives your numbers. Games and tool preferences may save progress locally, as described below.

Saved tools and activity progress

Favourites, recently opened tools, game scores, unfinished Sudoku and Number Merge boards, typing lesson progress, focus-timer settings and recent speed-test results use local storage on your device. We do not receive this information or sync it to an account. Keyboard-test key presses and mouse-test events are not saved.

Use “Clear saved activity data” on the home page to remove this information. Private browsing or blocked storage can prevent saving. Clearing saved activity data does not change your analytics or advertising consent choice. Your browser’s site-data settings can clear both progress and consent preferences.

Broadband speed test

Only after you press Start, your browser sends and receives generated binary test data through this site’s Cloudflare-hosted service. No personal files are selected or uploaded. A chosen payload budget limits the transfer; request headers and network overhead add to it.

The service counts incoming bytes and discards them, without saving request bodies. Your IP address is used for short-lived request limiting. Cloudflare also processes the usual hosting information described below. Test results stay in this browser unless you choose to share them yourself.

Exchange rates

The currency converter requests the day's exchange rates. When you open it, your browser asks Frankfurter, a free service that republishes the European Central Bank's reference rates, for the latest set, at api.frankfurter.dev.

That request carries nothing you type. The whole table arrives at once and every conversion happens on your device, so Frankfurter never learns the amount or the currencies you chose. Like any web request it does carry your IP address and the ordinary details your browser sends, and it says the request came from this site, though not from which page. Frankfurter states that it does not collect or log personal data, IP addresses or request URLs, and that the Cloudflare network in front of it gives it only aggregate traffic figures; see frankfurter.dev. No other page on this site makes the request.

The files you convert

The same is true of the file tools, and it is worth saying separately because most converters work the other way round. When you merge a PDF, split one, or convert between PDF and Word or images in either direction here, the file is never uploaded. It is read from your own disk by the page, converted in your browser's memory, and handed straight back to you.

We never receive it, never store it, never see its name, and could not produce a copy of it if we were asked to. This is not a policy we are choosing to follow: there is no server in the process that could receive a file. You can confirm it by opening your browser's developer tools, watching the network tab, and running a conversion, or simply by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded and converting anyway.

What our host can see

The site is served through Cloudflare, which acts as our hosting and security provider. In order to deliver a page and protect against attacks, Cloudflare processes standard technical information, including:

  • your IP address
  • the page you requested and when
  • your browser and operating system, as reported by your browser
  • the site that referred you, if any

This is the ordinary technical record any web server keeps. We use it only to keep the site running and secure, and we do not attempt to identify individual visitors from it. Cloudflare acts as our processor under its own data protection terms.

Cookies

We use a necessary preference cookie, mw_analytics_consent, to remember your analytics choice for 180 days. It contains only your choice, with no visitor identifier. Calculator sums run in your browser and the numbers never reach us. Activity progress is saved locally as explained above.

We use Google Analytics to measure visits, pages viewed and time spent engaging with the site. It receives the page address, referring website and basic browser and device information. We do not send calculator figures, search text, typed practice text, file names or file contents to Analytics. Page addresses sent by our tag exclude query strings and fragments.

Analytics storage is denied by default. Before you consent, Google can receive cookieless measurements; Analytics cookies are not set. If you accept analytics storage, Google can use cookies to distinguish visits and measure returning visitors. Use Privacy choices in the footer to allow or decline Analytics independently of advertising. Declining removes the Analytics cookies set by this site and updates Google's consent signal immediately. We do not enable Google signals or personalised advertising through our Analytics tag.

Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Our advertising provider may use cookies according to your choices, as described next.

Advertising

We use Google AdSense to support this free site with advertising, subject to Google's site approval and ad availability. Its advertising and consent scripts may load even when no advert is displayed.

Google, and the partners it works with, may set cookies or read device identifiers in your browser in order to serve and measure adverts, and to limit how often you see the same one. Where adverts are personalised, that data may be used to select adverts based on your interests. We never receive any of it, and we never send Google anything you type into a calculator.

Your choice about personalised advertising

Because visitors here are largely in the UK, you will be asked for consent before any advertising cookie is set. You can refuse, and every tool on the site works exactly the same if you do: you may see limited adverts or no adverts. You can change your answer at any time through the consent options on this site.

You can also control this at Google's end, independently of us, using Google My Ad Center. Google's own explanation of how it uses data from sites that show its adverts is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

What advertising does not change

The calculators still run entirely in your browser. No salary, no property price and no estate value is sent to Google or to us. Adverts sit in fixed places on the page, they are labelled as adverts, and there are no interstitials, pop-ups or countdowns.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to how it is used, and to receive a copy of it. Given that the calculators collect nothing, in practice there is usually nothing to give you, but the right stands and you are welcome to ask.

Write to hello@mini-widgets.com and we will respond within one month.

Complaints

If you think we have handled your data badly, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the date at the top of the page changes with it.
