These are durations, so hours can exceed 24 and subtraction can give a negative result. Clock times and dates are not inferred.

Hours to minutes or seconds

Multiply hours by 60 to get minutes, or by 3,600 to get seconds. For example, 2.5 hours is 150 minutes or 9,000 seconds. Divide by the same factor to reverse the conversion.

Decimal hours and clock time

A decimal is a fraction of the unit you chose. A quarter of an hour is 0.25 hours, or 15 minutes. For 2 hours and 45 minutes, enter 2.75 hours or 165 minutes.

Fixed durations and calendar dates

This tool treats a day as 24 hours and a week as seven days. Months and years are left out because their lengths vary. To count between actual dates, use the date difference calculator. To exclude weekends and UK bank holidays, use the working days calculator.

Common questions

How many seconds are in an hour?
There are 60 minutes in an hour and 60 seconds in a minute, so one hour is 3,600 seconds. Multiply hours by 3,600, or divide seconds by 3,600 to go back.
Does 1.5 hours mean 1 hour and 50 minutes?
No. The decimal part is a fraction of an hour: 0.5 times 60 is 30 minutes. So 1.5 hours is 1 hour and 30 minutes. For 1 hour and 50 minutes, enter 110 minutes.
Can I convert months or years?
Months and calendar years have different lengths, so this tool uses fixed durations from milliseconds to weeks. Use the date difference calculator for the interval between two calendar dates.
Does a day always mean 24 hours here?
Yes. Here a day is a fixed duration of 86,400 seconds. This is a duration converter, not a clock or time-zone calculator; it does not adjust for daylight-saving changes.
